Method
Katch Design Collective’s approach to design marries our expertise in both the sciences and interior design. Both bring an equally important quality and we fully capitalize on what each has to offer.
The ‘Roots Methodology’ was developed to synthesize the drivers of design that were the most potent and therefore the most affecting and effective. The Roots Methodology consists of 4 tenets that support and create a platform for both physical and mental wellbeing in the built environment. Each tenet is rooted in knowledge we have on how the mind and body interact with the environment, both built and natural.
The roots of a tree are the anchor by which it stands firmly planted in space and what supports the tree during its life. The roots, while hidden in the soil, beneath our view, determine just how big this tree may grow and how healthy it will be. We see this as the perfect analogy behind our methodology. Our methodology supports living well in this world, being firmly planted in space so we can in fact grow. It determines the intention, the unseen, behind each decision we make. We want each of our clients to live their best lives and we use this methodology in support and achievement of just that.
BIOPHILIC DESIGN
Biophilia is defined as the human inclination to connect with nature. The principles that guide biophilic design range from the most obvious – visual connections to nature and use of natural materials to the more complex – mystery. Given that we spend more time indoors than ever before it becomes imperative that our connection to nature is strongly considered in design process.
BEAUTY
The very profession of Interior Design answers this call, to marry the desire for beauty with the need for shelter. We all want (and deserve) to work and live in spaces that are beautiful. It may seem obvious that beauty would be considered when creating spaces, but rarely do we ponder why beauty is so important.
INTUITIVE FENG SHUI
Feng Shui is the ancient Chinese art and science of spatial arrangement within and around buildings to promote harmony between individuals and the built environment. The intuitive aspects of Feng Shui (the ones felt in our body and explained by neurobiology and quantum physics) have proved most valuable and reliable to designing spaces that promote wellbeing.
RITUALIZING ROUTING
We have more modern conveniences now than ever, yet we somehow have less time? By elevating our routines to be mini rituals we create built-in moments of pause throughout the day. These pauses slow down life just enough so we can reconnect with self, family, community, passions, etc. By carefully designing our environment we can promote that which is most important to us.
