RITUALIZING ROUTINE

I think most would agree that we are moving too quickly through life, often wearing our busyness as a badge of worthiness.  We have more modern conveniences now than ever; yet, we somehow have less time?  It seems any time saved has been usurped by a never-ending to do list, or the technology which has saved us time has now stolen it back (plus interest). Living in the space of perpetual busy is actually the opposite of living; it puts us in the category of human doer rather than human being.  The sweeping movement towards mindfulness and living intentionally is no surprise as it is the antidote to busyness.

By elevating our routines to be mini rituals, we create built-in moments of pause throughout the day.  These pauses slow down life just enough so you can reconnect with self, family, community, passions, etc. Often we can achieve great results by simply tweaking and fine-tuning what we are already doing.

Through design we cultivate the built environment to support these activities so you may consistently enjoy that which is most important to you. It is not always a big gesture, it can be as simple as having a basket with a blanket nearby your reading spot, having a candle and incense by your bedside for your morning meditation, or having the perfect chair for you to enjoy your morning tea or coffee before the hustle of your day begins.  If you are in construction, it can be the addition of a breakfast nook to encourage more family meals at the table, together and less eaten hurriedly at the counter.

Rituals, by nature call us to slow down, be present and receive the gift of the moment. I don’t think we have ever needed rituals more than we need them now.
